Shin Seok Jeong (1907~1947 poet-first pastoral poet in Korea)

Shin Seok JeongHe is known for writing unique poems living in the nature of his home town where he was born, and it is said that he got much influenced especially by India's Tagore and Do Yeon Myeong of China. Once he was acting as a fellow member of poetry literature leaving his hometown but he returned again and then never left from there and published works of poem with material he gained in his living in farm village. With his work『Candle』released in 1939, he became recognized and a pastoral lyric poet and got applauded from readers, His main works are ≪Sad Bucolic≫, ≪Iceberg≫, ≪Prelude of mountain≫, ≪Sound big wind≫

Choi Myeong Hee (1947~1998 writer)

Choi Myeong HeeA writer with only one work of hers <Honbul> she wrote with all her heart and spirit for 17 years. Her essay was elected for first place when she was third grade in high school, she was widely acknowledged of her writing skill to the extent that her work was listed in high school composition text book. From the time when her writing got the first prize in Jungang Daily newspaper's literary contest in spring, 1980 until the novel <Honbul>, she has been evaluated to raise the level of Korean literature with beautiful stories of life and mind in history. Main works are ≪Jeongok≫ ≪Collapsing light≫ ≪Afternoon≫ ≪Evening bell≫ ≪Woman in neighborhood≫.

Lee Byeong Ki (1891~1968 Korean verse poet, Korean classical scholar)

Lee Byeong KiA scholar who stood in front of Korean verse poem's revival and study of Korean literature. Making firm determination in our language and writing and standing at front of reviving of our unique Korean verse poem, he created not only numerous Korean verse poems by himself but also devoted greatly in building the base of Korean verse poem's theory which were deteriorating. On the other hand he deeply realized the significance of Hangeul to organize a society for the research of Joseon language and did vigorous activities as a committee member of <draft for unified spelling system of Hangeul> and member of assessing committee of <Joseon Standard Language>. Main works are ≪Garam Poem Collection≫, ≪Selection of Korean Verse Poem Generation≫, ≪Anthology of Garam≫, ≪Whole history of Korean literature≫

Lee Sam Man(1770~1847 calligrapher - One of 3 noted good hands in the latter term of Joseon)

Lee Sam ManAs a calligrapher in Yeong, Jeongjo of Joseon dynasty, he is famous as one of 3 noted good hands together with 'Chusa Kim, Jeong Hee' and 'Cho, Gwangjin'. Especially he was very good at cursive style and secured his exclusive trend of calligraph called 'Changam character'. His handwriting remains in ≪Plaque of Jiri mountain's Chibul grotto≫ ≪Writing scripture of Okryu grotto in Hanbyeokdan≫ ≪Hanging Board In Main Temple of Wibong Temple≫. And ≪Jeonju's Seven Writings≫ was published after inscribing Lee Samman's handwritings.

Hwang Wook (1898~1993 a calligrapher)

Hwang WookAs a representing calligrapher of Jeonju overcoming misfortune of his physical condition, he became famous in particular with semi-cursive style and cursive style having six artistic talents that Chinese literature and a scholar should have and be good at handwriting. What made him more famous was that even though he got symptoms that made his hand tremble greatly which made him difficult in writing, he survived the hardship and acquired his unique way of writing 'scrawling method' in which he grasping brush to be fixed in his whole palm. He left about 100 works including ≪Plaque in big Whaeom temple≫ ≪Hanging board in belfry of Bulguk temple≫ ≪Plaque of Daejeokgwangjeon of Kumsan temple≫, and he held many a exhibitions including Donga-daily preview.

Song Seongyong (1913~1999 a calligrapher)

Song SeongyongA confucian scholar and great master of calligrapher with personality and moral influence and studied calligraphy and four gracious plants widely all his life to make new achievement in expressing traditional calligraphy into modern type, and though his traces remain through various world of his works, more than anything he let Gangam calligraphy hall be established, which is calligraphy specialty hall. Located in Kyodong in Jeonju, this place was built as he contributed his land and about 1,200 pieces of his works including booklets, pictures to this calligraphy specialty exhibition hall. Main works are ≪Collection of poems from Gangam Song Seongyong≫ ≪Gangam Thousand-Character Text≫ ≪Gangam Mujeok≫.

Kwon Sam Deuk (1771-1841, a noted singer of Pansori)

Kwon Sam DeukBorn in a noble family, he was the best noted Pansori singer. It is said that even though with his noble family background, he was endowed with musical talent and didn't like to study in his childhood and kicked out from home because he only learned Pansori. His original name was Kwon Jung, but it is said that the name <Sam Deuk>came from the meaning of 'Acquired 3 kinds of sori'. He is famous for sounding unique 'Deoneum' called Seoleonjae of Pansori as the best noted singer among 8 great singers of former term of Joseon, and as a vocal sound shouting out high pitch of sound long and is used in ' Part of Gunnosaryeong [Commander] goes out ' in <Chunhyang song> and 'Part of going out to drive away swallows ' in <Heungbo song>, and especially he was known to sing <Heungbo song> very well.

Park Dong Hwa (1911~1978a writer and performing artist)

Park Dong HwaAs a result of his frontier play in Jeonbuk theatrical circles <My monolog hasn't been finished> was staged on national theater in 1959, he began to be acknowledged. In poor condition then, he led Jeonbuk Theater in 70s to its best heyday with vigorous activity while managing local troupe. Concentrating only playwriting and play, he stood in front of activation of creative plays and medium of plays to be awarded grand prize two times at national play contests. Main works evaluated as a frontier of local play are ≪Two taverns≫ ≪Farm village service corps ≫ ≪Ferry≫.
