Nagsujeong the military and the police cemetery

Nagsujeong, the military and the police cemetery in Jeonju is a cemetery where soldiers and police officers who died while trying to protect their homeland during the Korean War are settled. It was named as military cemetery in March 1953, and renamed to military and the police cemetery in 1973. It was built to commemorate the souls of soldiers and police officers who were fighting to protect their country and to pass on their merits to the posterity.


Gyeonhwon's Palace Site

It is the palatial site of Hubaekje which was set up as a capital by Gyeonhwon in 900, and its traces still remain to nowadays. Gyeonhwon’s Palace Site is located at Donggosanseong Fortress on the eastern side of Seungam Mountain in Jeonju which has the height of 306m above the sea level. ‘Jeonju Seongmyung Yunhwa Munwadang’ was discovered from an old building in inner side while investigating the mountain fortress in 1980 which proved the fact that it was the palatial site of Gyeonhwon who was the king of Hubaekje. You can find the name “Jeonju Fortress” along with lotus pattern decoration in Wadang.


Donggo mountain fortress

Donggo Mountain Fortress is leaned on peculiar shaped rocks and cliff of the multiplication rocky mountain. The topography embracing the straw basket Hyeong mountain valley of which the conservatism is pierced to the direction of northwest is used. Seumam Temple

Chimyeongja Mountain holy site

In Chimyeongjasan, 6 families of 'honam's Apostle' Yuhangeom who died in Catholic Persecution of 1801  are buried together. Among them, Lee Sunee and Jungcheol  Yoo couple who were praied highly by  bishop Dabeulrwi as "the  bijou  of  Korean  martyrs"  were included included.  Yoo Hanggeom family as first buried near Baubaegi and were moved to where it is buried now by Bodune, bishop of JueonJu Catholic church(Jeondong Catholic church now)  in 1914.


Jeonju Nature Ecological Museum

"jeonju natural ecology museum" which is situated in the beautiful natural environment which the Jeonju stream purity wave flows in the future having the wonderful sight of the multiplication rocky mountain, that is Jeonju's main producing, in the background, opens at May 22nd in 2008 and it is emerged as the new sight spot along with the village of traditional Korean-style houses.

The place where tradition and modernity meet harmoniously, Jeonju Traditional Culture Center is where you can feel the wonder of tradition in the middle of the city. It is a complex cultural space where you can feel the Korean traditional life culture, which consists of Hanbyeok theater, the country music exclusive hall; Hanbyeokru, the traditional food center; the cooking experience center; Gyeongeopdang, the education experience center, Hwamyeongwon, the traditional wedding hall; Dahyang, the traditional teahouse, and the recreation ground, etc.


Jeonju Hyanggyo

Jeonju Hyanggyo was founded during the Goryeo Dynasty, and the current building has been built in the reign of King Seonjo of Joseon. In the center of Daeseongjeon Shrine, the memorial tablets of 5 saints are placed including Confucius, Yanzi, Zisi, Zengzi, Mencius, etc. Looking at the arrangement of existing buildings of Jeonju Hyanggyo, there are Dongmu and Seomu on the left and right centering on the Daeseongjeon Shrine, Irwolmun and Manhwaru on the front, Myeongnyundang Lecture Hall between the back wall of Daeseongjeon Shrine, Jangseogak Library, Gyeseongsa, Yangsajae and Samajae to the west and many buildings including Gyojiksa are around.

Hagindang is one of the 700 Korean-style houses in Hanok Village; the large-sized house with formality was built more than 100 years ago. As a house built by the handed down traditional technique, it shows the typical upper class housing at that time. Hagindang was a large mansion which consists of 99 rooms and covers more than 2,000 pyeong, but now the land only covers 520 pyeong and the building covers 69 pyeong. It is said that the house was built to honor the death of Baek Rak-Jung, who was famous as a devoted son. People say that 4,280 people including master builders & carpenters have been built it for 2 years and 8 months using the woods of Amnokgang River and Odaesan Mountain.


Gangam Calligraphy Museum

It is the only calligraphic exclusive exhibition hall in Korea, and it was built by the calligrapher Gangam Song Seong-Yong who is a native of this region. There are more than 1,000 works of well-known Korean calligraphers, such as Chusa Kim Jeong-Hui, Changam Lee Sam-Man, Danwon Kim Hong-Do, Dasan Jeong Yak-Yong, which master Song Seong-Yong have collected throughout his lifetime. You can deeply enjoy the atmosphere of Jeonju, the ‘City of Calligraphy.’


Jeonju Nambu Market

The south market borders the Wansan-gu electricity area and Jeonju riverside directly. And the south market is auspicious, it is putting on the between with the village of traditional Korean-style houses. Jeonju Confucian temple and school to teach local students in the Joseon Dynasty period and village of traditional Korean-style houses and electromotive character party and Kyonggi the former and Ppungnammun are located at the nearby. Jeonju Pungnammun Gate, the symbol of Jeonju was originally the South Gate of the 4 gates of Jeonju Buseong which was built by Choi Yu-Gyeong, the governor of Jeolla, during the first year of King Gongyang of Goryeo (A.D. 1389). Its architectural style is the gate tower form of the late Joseon Dynasty, and it is relatively well-preserved. In 1905, the 3 gates among the 4 gates of Jeonju Buseong were forcibly removed at the same time by Joseon Residency-General except Pungnammun Gate.


Jeondong Catholic Cathedral

"The Jeondong catholic church at the entrance of Hanok Village is simple and tidy. The Jeondong catholic church was erected in the same place of Pungnammun Gate, where Yun Ji-Chung and Kwon Sang-Yeon, the first martyrs of the Korean Catholic Church were executed at the time of persecution in 1791.

The symbol of the Jeonju Hanok village, Gyeonggijeon. Gyeonggijeon was built in the 10th year of King Taejong(1410) in order to support the King Taejo after Joseon(Korea) was established. Since then, Gyeonggijeon was disappeared at the time of the Jeongyu War which occurred in the 30th year of Seonjo(1597), and then it was rebuilt in the 6th year of King Gwanghae November 6th.


Gyodong Art Center

We are making cultural exchanges through exhibitions of famous writers who get change every week, and we are concentrating on the development of the area using various products that commercialized Jeonju Hanji.


Choimyeonghee Literary Museum

The writer of ‘Honbul’, Choi Myeong-Hui. Choi Myeong-Hui Literature Museum is the only literature museum in Jeonju that honors her cultural achievements. It holds various literary events that can interest citizens in literature and creation while centering on a project that unearths and sheds new light on the writer and her work. Also, it is a place for local cultural artists to communicate, where established as a specialty of Hanok village.



Seunggwangjae is the house where the Imperial grandson of Korean Empire used to live.


Traditional Liquor Museum

Traditional Liquor Museum is the place where the tradition of home-brewed liquor is alive. It is an experience type museum which displays and sells Korean traditional liquors, and reveals its own brewing method to visitors. You can learn about the process of brewing traditional liquors in Yanghwadang, and experience appropriate drinking etiquette through ‘Gyeyoungbae’ in Gyeyoungwon.
